Get to Know: Allison Osmer
We are so pleased to welcome Allison Osmer, Masters Level Clinician in training, to our practice and are excited to share her expertise. In addition to the info you can see on Allison’s About Me page, let’s get to know her a little bit more.
Why did you want to become a therapist?
I have wanted to be a therapist since high school, but I did not pursue this path until now due to many fears and self-doubt. My own therapy helped me work through a lot of self-doubt and build confidence in myself, which has led me to pursue a career I feel aligned with.
Overall, I have seen the benefits of therapy for myself, and I now want to provide a safe and collaborative space for others.
What are your favorite parts about being a therapist/therapist in training?
I enjoy listening to people’s stories and understanding how their past experiences inform their current worldview. I also enjoy learning from my clients and building a collaborative relationship.
How do you practice your own self-care?
Sometimes the best self-care for myself is to do nothing. Life can become overwhelming and full of commitments, so having time for myself always feels like a helpful way to re-charge.
What's something about therapy you wish more people knew?
Finding a therapist you trust is important to successful therapy. Every therapist has their own style and way of being, so if someone tells me they haven’t had successful therapy in the past, I always encourage them to continue exploring options until they find someone they feel safe with and aligned with.
If you weren't a therapist, what would you choose to do for work instead?
I really enjoy playing sports and staying active, so if I had the skills, I would love to have been a professional tennis or pickleball player.
