Therapy

Have you been feeling stuck?

Do you struggle with self-critical thoughts and beliefs?

Are you in recovery or considering what that path may look like?

Whether you are just starting to make changes or have progressed and now find yourself confused about the next step, therapy can help.

Life can get pretty overwhelming, and we all need a place to unwind, feel safe, and understood.

Therapy can help you discover ways of unlearning unhelpful beliefs, building motivation, improving relationships, finding your way, and feeling more content.

If you would benefit from a balanced approach — nurturing yet direct, understanding yet accountable, we will likely work well together.

If you’re ready to feel less anxious, more accountable, less confused, more empowered, less self-critical, more compassionate, reach out today.

Often the hardest step is that first outreach for help! We will start with a free 15-minute consultation call to make sure your questions are answered and you feel confident in moving forward.

In addition to ongoing 1:1 therapy sessions, we also offer adjunct movement therapy sessions (you may have a talk therapist you love and want to add on movement therapy) and we also offer gender affirming letters for those needing a letter to affirm their choice to begin hormone therapy or undergo gender affirming surgery.

We offer telehealth therapy for residents of Illinois and Massachusetts.

If you’re ready to explore patterns, want to get unstuck, and need a space to feel safe to just be you, we’re here for you.

While we can help with a variety of concerns (depression, anxiety, addiction to name a few), we will likely be a good fit if:

  • You identify as being in recovery and need nonjudgmental accountability

  • You’re ready to set goals and work toward self-improvement

  • You’re curious and open to exploring the mind-body-spirit connection

Our Approach

Find a therapist near me

Our approach to therapy is to help you make positive changes and identify what is and isn’t working for you.

We may work with traditional talk therapy techniques, movement therapy, mindfulness, or something else — how we navigate our sessions will be co-created based on your goals and what you feel is best for you.

We balance creating a safe, non-judgmental, accepting space with holding you accountable and providing direct feedback. We want you to feel empowered and understood, and will also provide you the accountability you need to not only intellectually understand your problems, but to actually feel the difference in your mood and actions.

Our approach is more active than passive — We can be a non-judgmental listening ear but are more likely to help you identify next steps than continue to re-tell an old story.

Let’s rewrite and start a new chapter!

This is my first time in therapy, what should I expect?

Welcome! Reaching out for the first time can feel scary and vulnerable — We’re proud of you for taking the first step to start researching, and are here when you’re ready for the next step of reaching out.

We’ll start the process by scheduling a 10-15 minute phone call. On this call, you can expect to be asked a few questions about what you’re looking for in therapy and what brings you to therapy at this time. You can share as much or as little as you’re ready to, however, know at minimum, we’ll want to assess if you are safe and if outpatient therapy is the right level of care for you.

This call is also your opportunity to ask any questions! You might ask more about our approach, ask about something you saw on the website, ask any questions you have about therapy in general, or something else.

We’ll also chat about logistics — if our availability lines up, explaining virtual sessions, and discussing payment and any needs you may have for a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company.

You don’t accept insurance, but can I still get it covered?

Maybe! We accept self-pay only, however, we’re happy to give you a superbill at the end of each month that you can submit to your insurance company to see if they’ll reimburse you for the sessions you’ve paid for. If you’d like a better estimate as to whether they’ll cover or not, call your insurance company and ask about your out-of-network benefits for behavioral health. You can also use your HSA or FSA card on file.

Also, if you don’t show for your appointment or cancel after the 24-hour mark, we will still need to charge; those charges cannot be included on the superbill so would not get reimbursed.

Where is your office?

We’re working virtually only for the foreseeable future, which means you get to join wherever is most comfortable! We do expect you to be in a private space with no one else in the room. For some folks, that means they take calls in the car, which is totally cool as long as the vehicle is stopped, of course. Although we solely provide telehealth, we are licensed in Illinois, meaning therapy in Chicago and therapy in Illinois is provided via telehealth. If you’re located in a different state, you may be eligible for recovery coaching.

What is Dance/Movement Therapy?

Dance/movement therapy is a body-based approach to therapy. It’s a holistic approach that includes the mind, body, and spirit in the healing process. It can look many different ways depending on what you’re looking for or needing in therapy. It could mean moving or dancing in a session or it can also mean getting to know your body’s wisdom, building trust with your body, and talking about how your symptoms manifest in your body. If you’re uncomfortable with movement, no need to fear! As with any approach to therapy, it’s based on what you need and want from a therapy session.
