DBT Skills Coaching
Are you judgmental of your own thoughts and feelings?
Do you struggle to communicate with your loved ones?
Are you having difficulty managing intense feelings?
DBT Skills Coaching may be right for you if:
You want to learn how to accept who you are, as well as grow.
You’re looking to develop communication skills that enhance relationships.
You’d like to gain skills to reduce acting out of emotions and impulsivity.
You have an interest in growing problem-solving techniques.
You would like to learn about mindfulness and how it can improve mental wellbeing.
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced-based therapy that has roots within cognitive behavioral therapy.
The main goals of DBT is to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships with others.
In DBT, we work to resolve internal conflicts between self-acceptance and change to bring forward healthy and positive changes.
DBT also incorporates mindfulness in order to help people focus on the present moment.
This helps us register what is going on internally in order to reduce impulsivity and emotional reactivity and instead helps us respond in ways that are value centered and productive.
DBT is a skills-based approach, which means you are getting very concrete ways to practice coping. Some people enjoy this because it gives them a sense of control within their coping and provides step-by-step directions to aid individuals when feeling emotionally dysregulated.
As a practice, we apply DBT with a lens that the broad techniques and skills need to be taught and implemented based on an individual’s needs.
We see the application of DBT as a helpful way to cope with trauma, not as a way to “fix” or “correct” but as a way to understand and navigate trauma and trauma responses.
Our Approach
Our approach is to provide a space for people to learn, practice, and discuss Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills.
We believe that learning DBT skills allows people to thrive within their intrapersonal and interpersonal lives.
We provide a non judgemental space and are collaborative in nature. We operate with a guiding energy rather than a directive one.

DBT Skills Coaching is different from therapy.
DBT Skills Coaching is psychoeducational and is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any diagnosed condition.
Traditional talk therapy may pull from many theories or modalities, while DBT Skills Coaching focuses on the implementation of DBT principles.
It’s intended to provide individuals with concrete tools including (but not limited to) distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.
All of our clinicians and coaches are trained in DBT and have many years of collective experience providing DBT interventions in individual and group settings.
That being said, we do not follow a strict Linehan approach. This allows us to treat each client as an individual and makes the experience much more personal.
FAQs
How long does DBT skills coaching last?
We believe that everyone learns at their own pace and we work to honor what is best for each individual.
You may enter DBT skills coaching for a short period, perhaps as a supplement to existing therapy you’re already engaging in or you may prefer to keep the coaching relationship going on a longer-term basis.
We’ll assess at intake and along the way to make sure it’s feeling like a good fit.
Do I have to be in therapy while engaging in DBT skills coaching?
No, you do not have to be engaged in therapy while in our coaching services, provided your goals and needs are able to be met at the coaching versus therapy level.
We’ll assess for safety at intake and along the way to make sure you’re not needing a higher level of support.
That said, you absolutely can be in therapy and still benefit from DBT skills coaching. When engaging in both, it’s typically most helpful for your coach and therapist to be in communication, with your consent.
Can I see you for therapy and DBT skills coaching?
On a case-by-case basis, you may be able to see the same therapist for therapy and DBT skills coaching, especially if you begin with therapy or both simultaneously.
If you begin on a coaching basis and then determine therapy is also needed, it’s best practice to see another clinician for therapy and to keep your coach for DBT.
Where is your office?
We’re working virtually only for the foreseeable future, which means you get to join wherever is most comfortable!
We do expect you to be in a private space with no one else in the room. For some folks, that means they take calls in the car, which is totally cool as long as the vehicle is stopped, of course.
