About Casey

Who Am I?

I’m Casey McDonagh, LCSW (she/her)—a therapist, social worker, active listener, and advocate for marginalized communities.

I specialize in working with young adults and adults navigating personality disorders, substance use recovery, eating concerns, and neurodivergence.

In therapy, I take a person-centered, holistic approach, tailoring my support to help you meet your goals - whether those goals are clear or you're still figuring them out.

I’m here to help you navigate the challenges of adulting, skill-building, and creating actionable plans for change in a non-judgmental space.

I believe therapy is often just one piece of the puzzle, and I love supporting clients in identifying and connecting with their unique healing team.

Whether you need a primary care physician, psychiatrist, support group, or other resources, I’m committed to helping you design a personalized plan for healing that suits your needs.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring new foods, reading across genres, and sipping seasonal lattes.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is to be a supportive guide on your unique healing journey, meeting you where you are and helping you navigate your mental health with empathy and understanding.

I particularly enjoy working with clients who have specific behaviors or mental health concerns they want to address, as well as those curious about exploring their identities, relationships, or just looking for a space to process life's stressors.

Whether you're dealing with substance use, eating concerns, or seeking support for neurodivergence, I’m here to offer compassionate and tailored guidance.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, uncertain about how different areas of your life are impacting your mental health, or wanting to change unhelpful behavior patterns, develop coping skills, or gain deeper insight, I can help you navigate this process with reflective, empathetic support.

We may be a good fit if you're experiencing anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder (BPD), or challenges related to trauma, boundary issues, or emotional regulation.

I I specialize in supporting clients through a wide range of concerns, including navigating systems of oppression, exploring or affirming identity, adapting to life transitions, and working through substance use or recovery.

Whether you're sober curious, in early recovery, or looking to understand your relationship with substances, I'm here to guide you through that process.

I’m deeply committed to being LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC affirming, and I work through an intersectional lens. I also offer support for those navigating sex and relationship questions, and I’m sex work and polyamory allied.

In therapy, I will collaborate with you on what’s working and what’s not, but I generally draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic and Rogerian approaches, Family Systems, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, and Relapse Prevention.

What’s My Experience?

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in substance use and co-occurring disorders.

I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Bradley University, where I minored in Gender Studies, and a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, where I specialized in Mental Health.

I’ve worked with both adolescents and adults, understanding that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe different therapeutic modalities work for different people, depending on your unique needs and goals.

I have extensive experience with individual therapy, group therapy, and providing workshops/trainings.

Before moving into private practice, I gained valuable experience in inpatient and community-based treatment settings, supporting clients through substance use disorders and various mental health conditions.

My clinical experience includes individual therapy, group therapy, bio-psycho-social assessments, case management, and supervision.
